Why Choose Tasco
Honest Price, Real Glass
Fully coated or multi-coated optics in every model — not plastic lenses. A meaningful step up from “toy” binoculars without paying alpha-brand prices.
Built to Get Knocked Around
Rubber-armored bodies, fold-down eyecups, and a design that expects to ride in a glove box, a tackle bag, or a kid’s backpack. Not precious.
A Model for the Job
8x21 pocket compacts through 10–30x50 zooms. 8x is steadier handheld, 10x reaches further. Larger objectives (42/50mm) for low light.
Part of the Bushnell Family
Tasco has been part of Bushnell since 2002. Same engineering team, same supply chain — just tuned for everyday users rather than pro hunters.
Who These Are For
Birdwatching
8x42 and 10x42 are the classic birding configs. Bright, steady, wide field of view — easy to find the bird before it moves.
Hunting & Scouting
Rubber armor, larger objectives, and eye relief that works with hats and glasses. Glass long enough to decide before you move.
Hiking & Travel
Compact roof-prism models under 12 oz. Live in a daypack all week without the weight you’d regret on the trail.
Concerts & Sports
Focus-free compacts you can raise and use in a second — no fiddling in the dark at a stadium or theater.
What Our Customers Say
“At a concert in the nosebleed seats, or looking at birds in the forest — these are outstanding. Solidly built, compact, folds into a purse or glove box. Light enough to wear around your neck all day on a hike.”
— Winterlight
“I have a larger pair of binoculars that cost around $50, and these easily compete. Plus they fit in my pocket. I liked them so much I bought a pair for my dad.”
— Jon
“Works perfectly. Amazing sharp, bright images edge to edge — not expected at this price. Better collimation than a much more expensive Nikon pair I replaced.”
— John
“I needed an affordable pair for surveillance work. Easy to focus and the view is extremely clear. Coworkers were hesitant when I said "Tasco" — then they looked through them and changed their minds.”
— Chevyman
“Purchased to replace a pair of Tasco 7x35s I got as a birthday gift in the 1970s. Very happy with the optics, and the focus wheel is easy to use, even one-handed.”
— K. Wood
“Ideal format for daytime use. 7x is about all anybody can hand-hold without tremors affecting sharpness. Coatings spot on, 35mm keeps weight down while letting in plenty of light.”
— Tea
Frequently Asked Questions
8x42 or 10x42 are the standard. 8x gives a wider field of view and a steadier image — easier to find a bird before it moves. 10x reaches further but every heartbeat is more visible. When in doubt, start with 8x.
Larger objectives (the second number — 42mm, 50mm) gather more light, so the 10x50 and 16x50 are the picks for dawn, dusk, and shaded forest. Multi-coated glass in every Tasco model also helps transmission.
Roof prisms (Essentials line) are straight-barreled, more compact, and easier to pack. Porro prisms (the stepped body, like the 10x50) are usually a bit brighter and cheaper for the same optics. For travel, pick roof; for sit-and-glass sessions, pick porro.
Blow off grit first (a lens blower or gentle breath). Then use a clean microfiber or lens cloth in light, circular motions. Skip paper towels and shirt corners — they can leave fine scratches in the multi-coating.

Same parent company. Tasco is the budget-friendly sibling — simpler designs, fewer pro features, sharper price. Bushnell-branded optics add things like ED glass, waterproofing, and ranging reticles that casual users rarely need.
For casual night-sky viewing, yes — especially the 10x50 and the 10–30x50 zoom. You’ll see lunar craters, the Galilean moons of Jupiter, and star clusters. For deep-sky work, a telescope is the right tool.
Most Tasco models are water-resistant, not fully waterproof or nitrogen-purged. If you’ll be in heavy rain or kayaking regularly, check the product page specs before you buy.
Most full-size models (anything 10x42 and up) have a tripod adapter socket behind the front hinge. A tripod helps a lot at 12x+, and becomes essential for the 10–30x50 zoom past about 15x.
Yes. Tasco is an active part of the Bushnell portfolio (now under Revelyst) and still produces a full line of affordable, dependable optics — binoculars, scopes, telescopes, and red dots.
A Legacy of Optical Excellence
Bushnell Corporation was founded in 1948 by David P. Bushnell, who introduced precision Japanese binoculars to the American market, making quality optics accessible to everyday consumers. This innovative approach helped establish Bushnell as a leader in sporting optics and outdoor gear.
Over the decades, Bushnell expanded its portfolio to include riflescopes, telescopes, GPS devices, night vision, and more. In 2002, the company acquired Tasco, a globally recognized brand known for affordable telescopes and binoculars, especially popular among amateur astronomers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Tasco Binoculars became a key part of Bushnell's mission to offer reliable, entry-level optics for a wide range of users — from backyard stargazers to hikers and sports fans. Combining Tasco's approachable design with Bushnell's engineering standards, the brand continues to deliver trusted performance at an accessible price.
Today, Bushnell operates as a subsidiary of Revelyst, serving customers worldwide from its headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas.
